Future Block Progress – Part 1!
Golden Road Vineyards had the pleasure of hosting Surry Community College this past Saturday, March 3rd. Led by Viticulture Instructor, Sarah Bowman, the students of the Vineyard Establishment and Development class spent their time in the future block of the vineyard taking soil samples. It was beneficial that the students practice their soil sampling techniques on a site before it is prepared and developed.
Please stay tuned for the follow-up to this exercise, as the results of the soil sampling will be shared at Sarah’s Grape and Wine Science class later this Spring. The results would help identify fertilizer calculations and provide rate recommendations for GRV’s new vineyard planting. Stay tuned for Part 2 of this blog to be updated late April / early May. Based on the results of the soil sampling, GRV may be looking to plant additional vines or use the space for a future winery.
